i have become a less than wonderful blogger as of late, to say the least. i find that blogging is kind of difficult sometimes, maybe i don't have anything to say, maybe i have too much to say, maybe i'm just bored or lazy. probably the last one, more than anything. but anyway i have some facts to report about my spring break.
i saw my family. that was great. i missed them.
i saw my friends in bloomington, i was homesick for bloomington at the same time as being homesick for chicago. i am the kind of person who gets homesick pretty easily (not totally, uncontrollably homesick, just feeling like not-quite-at-ease), but i have never been homesick for more than one place at a time. nor have i ever been homesick for a location where i actually was. i'm trying to think of a way to stay in bloomington for a couple weeks, maybe a month, during the summer. i could work from the lab there.
i visited the lab in bloomington to have a meeting with hakako (sic) and dr. smythe (sic), as, in a strange twist of events, i am now the first author of the weird study paper. i know that means nothing to about 95% of you, the 5% to whom it does mean something being liz, but it's pretty radical. especially since we devised a few more experiments that i'm going to be running in tandem with them, and if said experiments find positive results, it's going to rock the developmental psychology world hardcore. also i found something in a bald wyn (sic) paper that was incorrect, or that the entire field (according to dr. smythe) have been interpreting incorrectly for the last ten years. and i figured out the truth. it was a shining moment for my ego. not just my ego, but it was one of those feelings of "i can do this, i do fit in here" that i'm having more and more rarely as of late. so that was nice.
not so nice: didn't get the grant i wanted. at least liz got honorable mention, which i didn;t even get that. as i said to liz, "i'm going to be 'honorably mentioning' the (agency who doles out such grants) in a giant shit i'm planning on taking later." to which liz replied, you plan to shit? thanks for sharing. haha....but i'm feeling better about all of that now. so i'm not going to continue thinking i'm a total and useless idiot. that's not really practical or helpful to think anyway. and i'm not *totally* useless. at least i can blog, right?
so now i present for your entertainment.....
signs that spring has arrived on south side chicago:
1. you wake up to a car flipped over in the middle of the street outside your window.
2. those who can afford it have at least one flower sprouted in their yard.
3. the orange-breasted robins are singing (yes, orange...i dont' know why they're orange, probably pollution or something).
4. the crazy woman who slaps her own face while cursing is down to wearing only two incredibly thick coats.
5. the ice has melted, leaving giant puddles of mud with doritos bags and condom wrappers stuck in them.
6. it is no longer physically impossible to walk to school.
7. when you go outside, the sun is shining on your face, instead of the wind blowing icily through your pores.
8. it's so lovely outside, you almost forget that judge mathis is on.
9. you can have your windows open, so it's NEVER quiet. you can always hear at least three different conversations, and two of them are arguments (compared to all three being arguments in the winter).
10. everyone is smiling at you as you walk down the street.
i love it here. :)
see you all sooon. xo.

oh, hello there, blog, fancy seeing you here.
so i haven't blogged for a while. that seems to be what people do. we get these blogs and we're so excited to share our every thought and story with the world, then we get too lazy. too lazy to think and move our fingers around a little bit. that's pretty bad. i must admit, i'm the laziest of the bunch. oh well....
i'm at school right now. my next two weeks are going to be a blur of linear models, waving hands and powerpoint presentations. i'm just trying to sit back, relax, and take it all in. i'm not freaking out or working too hard this time. i'm just trying to, well, enjoy stress. i know it seems difficult, but i just giggle maniacally whenever anything slightly amusing happens. that makes me laugh more. lalalaaaaaaa......
no but i really do have a lot to do today. and i've only been at school for six hours so far, six more to go!! then i get to go home! woo!
oh yesterday i (stupidly) got on the bus going the wrong direction. i decided to take a different bus because if i waited for the one i usually take, i was going to be late. so i got on this other bus, after checking the schedule the map etc. everything seemed fine. well, you know how most busses go in a circle and you get off anywhere on the circle, or you could just ride around and around and around all day until they noticed you? well, not this one...
i got on the bus, the bus driver was looking at me a little funny. then we went about one block where he stopped, and everyone got out. i assumed the bus was going to continue its little circle and take me to school. i was wrong....
bus driver: "ma'am, this is the end of the line. i don't go any farther."
bus girl: "huh? don't you go back to the university?"
bus driver: "uh, no, i'm off now. i'm going downtown"
bus girl: (moving to front, with confused look on face) "oh, okay, well, i'll just walk"
bus driver: "well.....are you going to be late? or whatever? (sighing uncomfortably)"
bus girl: "yeah but it's okay...it's my own fault...i don't usually take this bus"
bus driver: (taking off) "okay, where are we going?"
bus girl: "uhm, 59th and university"
so the point is that the bus driver *personally* delivered me directly to school. that was a good way to start a day. it was pretty funny. and i wasn't late. i liked the look on everyone's faces as the bus blew by its regularly scheduled stops. then when the guy dropped me off, there was an old lady there and she was like "where does this bus go? does it go to 53rd and lake park?" and the guy was all like well i'm actually off now and she was like okay i'll wait. then he said, no, get on...i'm going that way anyway. so there was this great bus driver personally delivering people all day after he got off work. it made me really happy.
well it's lunchtime. i got TWO bags of potato chips today, because i picked the one out of the vending machine that had a bag hanging precariously from the front, and, score! i got them both. okay well gotta go.
