for the most part, blogs are born to die
well, i had some complaints from my family that my blog was, can you believe it, boring? because apparently i never update or something. i don't know what you all are talking about. okay i guess i do. this is better than my photoblog, huh, which is on its 4th months anniversary of not being updated. i am eating a spinach salad and drinking some tea. yummm.
boring, i know.
uhm, let's think of something exciting. mike and i went to his nephew's 8thgrade graduation on friday. then on saturday we went to my cousin's graduation in indiana. then we went to her party, where i gave my parents their anniversary present, which is that they're going to las vegas and they are going to stay at circus circus. how, you might ask, could a grad student afford to send someone else on vacation? well, my family members helped me pay for most of it. so it's from everyone, not just me. so yeah. happy anniversary to my parents, huh? actually it's not until later this month...but whatev.
i got something funny out of the onion, you guys might enjoy it:
The Statue of Liberty is set to reopen in July, following the completion of structural and security improvemens. What changes have been made so far?
*Color of flame in torch will correspond with terror-alert level; statue's name changed to "The Statue of Security".
* Head no longer held on with quarter-mile of duct tape.
* Second security guard put on duty in case the first one falls asleep.
* Longtime Liberty Island resident and radical Islamic cleric Muqtada al-Sadr deported.
* Exterior and interior of structure meticulously de-Frenched.
*Lady Liberty now able to pump arm in air when extra patriotism needed.
*Statue's eyes outfietted with high-tech security cameras that monitor tourists' every move.
*"Don't" inscribed before "Bring us your..." on plaque at statue's base.
and that's it. i'm still in class this week and then next week is finals and then it's all over. i will have survived my first year of grad school. don't start congratulating me quite yet though. i've still got ten days to go. sigh.
mike and i have been enjoying chinatown lately. it's really cool. we wanna move there.
so there was this book reviewed in the last issue of cosmo, called "til death do us part" about bridesmaids who keep getting murdered and it was written by the editor of cosmo (way to plug yr own book, kate) and i actually read the magazine excerpt, i usually skip right past that part, because i don't read cosmo for the literature, cmon, but this time i read it and then i got trashily sucked in to the book so i went to borders yesterday and started reading it. i'm on page 75 approx. i'm going to keep going back to borders and reading it until i'm finished with it. so melissa has posted her summer reading list, i'm starting one too:
ahem:
til death do us part, kate white.
the new prophecy book by sylvia browne.
a tree grows in brooklyn.
malcolm x autobiography.
outrageous acts and everyday rebellions, steinem
moving beyond words, steinem
marilyn, steinem
jane eyre (because i never went through that girl stage)
anna karenina (because it's on oprah's book club??)
the brothers karamazov (because i have it and i should read it)
you know, maybe first i should go through the books i have and have never read....i have this habit of buying books at garage sales, etc., and i don't always read them. i have read most of them, don't get me wrong. but not all. maybe i should. ah, i don't know. i'll just do whatever.
i'm also going to put all the references i have on endnote. you should get it liz, if you don't already have it. it wil be your own personal database of papers and it even will create bibliographies for you, etc. you need it. now now go go. haahh......not really but i heard it makes life much easier.
this week i spilled water in my laptop, and it died temporarily. but it must have sensed that it was still needed here on earth (maybe when i was bawling uncontrollably) and decided to walk away from the light and back into my loving arms. i will never drink water again. i may die.
luckily that whole mess fixed itself or i would have been really distraught in these last two weeks of school...well i gotta go to class now. is everyone happy with that update? good.
