judy chicago
judy chicago is an artist, a (you guessed it!) feminist artist. my favorite piece of her art is the dinner party, which is a giant triangular table with place settings for all these famous women from history. it combines many different media to make a stunning visual and political statement. the coolest part to me is how all these women worked together to build it. and for some reason, it created quite a stir. is there something controversial about saying, look what women have done! look at all these important women who helped shape history! ?? well apparently so because judy chicago could barely find anyone to even display it and it sat in storage for a while before finally ending up in the brooklyn museum. whatever.
